Wing Commander (Wg Cdr) Nishantha Gajanayake joined the Sri Lanka Air Force in 1986 and served the esteemed organization for over 20 years, defending the nation during the height of the Eelam War against the world’s most ruthless terrorist organization. This group was ultimately and completely eliminated militarily by the Sri Lanka Armed Forces through a prolonged humanitarian operation that saved hundreds of thousands of civilians who had been forcibly used as human shields by the terrorists.
Since his retirement from active service, Wg Cdr Nishantha Gajanayake has been primarily engaged with foreign companies on various investment projects, focusing on coordination, contract negotiations, drafting necessary legal agreements, project approval processes, and project supervision. He is a professional in personnel and material management, administration (general, public, private, and corporate), and overall security, including intelligence, corporate espionage, premises and personnel security, theft and sabotage prevention, investigations, legal processes, and disciplinary measures.
Wg Cdr Nishantha Gajanayake has demonstrated exemplary performance in commanding organizational objectives with a strong sense of duty and outstanding leadership qualities over a period of 20 years. He possesses extensive knowledge in public and non-public accounting procedures, personnel and general administration, investigations, legal procedures, personal discipline, human and material resource management, public relations, training, and skills development to achieve common objectives and goals. His expertise extends to handling, coordinating, and negotiating with foreign and local delegates across different fields. Additionally, he has professional experience in planning, organizing, coordinating, and ensuring the security of both foreign and local VIPs as well as key installations.
Wg Cdr Nishantha Gajanayake has been a delegate in several significant international events, including the official entourage to the Pakistan Air Force, the Pacific Air Chiefs Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii, the Global Air Chiefs Conference in Washington, D.C., and the Centenary Celebrations of Powered Flight in the USA. He was also a delegate in the official entourage to the Indian Air Force.
He has obtained a Diploma in Computer Studies, completed the Junior Command & Staff College in Sri Lanka, attended the General Administration Course in Bangladesh, and successfully completed the Senior Staff College program at the prestigious Air War College in Pakistan.
Wg Cdr Nishantha Gajanayake served as the Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the former Chief of Defense Staff and Commander of the Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Donald Perera, for approximately five years. He is an alumnus of Ananda College, Colombo, and St. Thomas’ College, Bandarawela, Sri Lanka.
